Spatial Planning
Spatial planning is about turning long-term growth aspirations into clear, coordinated plans for land use and infrastructure. We help councils and public agencies set the direction for growth.
What we do
We support clients at every stage of the spatial planning process, including:
Regional and sub-regional spatial plans
Growth and infrastructure strategies for cities, towns and corridors
Land-use scenarios and development capacity assessments
Identification and protection of key routes and sites for infrastructure
Integration of spatial plans with infrastructure strategies, LTPs and budgets, bridging the gap between infrastructure planning, capacity modelling and design
Understanding resilience challenges and using this to inform land use planning.
How we work
We help you bring the right partners around the table – councils, mana whenua, infrastructure providers, and central government – and turn different perspectives into a shared, evidence-based plan.
Supporting you as planning requirements change
Proposed legislative changes, including the recently announced Planning Bill, place a central focus on effective spatial planning. Councils will be required to show, with data, where growth can go, when, and how it will be serviced.
Our property, planning and GIS specialists work together to make sure your spatial plan is realistic, fundable and deliverable, and we can advise and support councils to plan for and adapt to the changing planning rules.
Closing the strategy and implementation gap
We bridge the gap between strategy and implementation. Our team understands how spatial plans flow through to land-use planning, consenting pathways and project pipelines – especially for complex urban regeneration and infrastructure programmes.
Work with our spatial planning team
Whether you are updating or adapting existing strategies, or standing up a new regional spatial planning process, we can help you design the programme, coordinate partners and produce plans that stand up to scrutiny and can be implemented.
