Establishing a new fire station in the Pokeno community for Fire and Emergency New Zealand

Client: Fire and Emergency New Zealand

TPG’s Property and Planning teams played a key role in securing a site and the necessary resource consents for Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) to establish new fire station in the Pokeno community. TPG was involved right from the outset to help FENZ identify a suitable site to meet their operational requirements. The Planning team worked closely with FENZ and their team of specialists, as well as Waikato District Council, to get the resource consent approved in record time.

A review by FENZ concluded that with the recent urban expansion of the area, the current fire station situated in Mercer is unable to meet the FENZ’s service delivery target of attending 80% of incidents within seven minutes of leaving the station. The proposed Pokeno station is located much closer to the targeted catchment area and will significantly improve overall response times for the area.

Fire stations are valued as they provide a sense of safety in emergency situations or as a first responder to health-related emergencies. Fire stations are a central community feature, and more importantly, fire fighters contribute significantly to community cohesion.
